Greenbutton On The World Stage!
Greenbutton On The World Stage!
Kiwi start up Intergrid has wowed audiences at the Microsoft worldwide partner conference (WPC) in Washington, DC this month by demonstrating the greenbutton concept.
“It was amazing to be involved and present to the world on what we have achieved” quotes Scott Houston CEO, Intergrid Ltd.
Scott Houston, former chief technology officer at Weta during the production of ‘The Two Towers’ and ‘The Return of The King’ , gave a short presentation on their innovative software as part of the ‘A-List’ partners presentation on ‘The GreenButton’ to an audience of 15,000.
GreenButton is a plugin which can be imbedded into software to offload processor intensive tasks to the cloud where they can be processed across hundreds, if not thousands of computers. Intergrid has recently partnered with Microsoft to use their Azure cloud platform.
GreenButton was created as a result from needing extra processing power during the final weeks of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. With no on-demand computer power easily avaiable then, Weta had no option but to spend several millions of dollars to buy the 1000 extra computers, “…all for just 8 weeks of work, there had to be another way ” and in classic kiwi tradition. Scott formed Intergrid to invent the GreenButton service.
Scott presented with several others leading companies, and even got a Wow from President Bill Clinton who was spoke shortly after Scott.
