message
At least 350 people will be forming the number 350 on Kelburn Park field, overlooking Wellington city, next Tuesday.
Students and staff from Victoria University’s Environmental Studies Programme are initiating a ‘Human 350 sculpture’, to express support for the goal of 350 parts per million (ppm) as the stabilisation target for the carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere.
“New Zealand’s carbon dioxide count is currently at 390ppm and rising at about 2ppm per year, but Jim Hansen of NASA and many other leading climate scientists tell us that 350ppm is the safe upper limit of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere,” says Dr Sean Weaver, Senior Lecturer in the Environmental Studies Programme at Victoria University of Wellington.
“We can work towards achieving this by building a more efficient economy in the coming decades.
“We would love as many people as possible to join us in this event, to celebrate what we can do if we put our minds to it.”
