Telecom Update: Canterbury aftershocks
3pm Monday 13 June, 2011
Media Statement: Canterbury aftershocks
Telecom said that today’s big aftershocks have caused significant congestion on both mobile and fixed networks.
Mains power loss is also affecting some parts of the network.
As a result of this disruption Telecom urges customer to confine phone use to emergency calling only, and to use texting in order to conserve capacity on the mobile networks.
We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
Our thoughts are with the people of Canterbury.
