John Key must explain secret agenda
Revelations that National intends to sell Kiwibank if it is elected are a serious blow to the credibility of John Key and Bill English, Finance Minister Michael Cullen said today.
TV3 reported this evening that Bill English privately told National Party conference delegates that the Party would ‘eventually’ sell off Kiwibank. This is at odds with promises from John Key that he would not sell state assets in his first term if elected, and had ‘no plans’ to after that.
“It is clear that despite what John Key has told New Zealanders, National knows it would not keep Kiwibank in Kiwi ownership,” Dr Cullen said.
“This would be bad news for our economy and raises questions about what other public assets National may ready for the auction block if elected.
“This is cynical, dirty politics and shows that while the face at the front of National may have changed, nothing else has.
“Mr Key and Mr English have some explaining to do.”
