Green Party list selection most democratic
9 July 1999
All 1,300 Green Party members will vote on the construction of the party's list in what Green Co-convenor Ian Stephens describes "as the most democratic list selection process of all political parties".
This weekend a model list which has been drawn up by candidates and the national executive will be posted to all members across the country. Members are invited to change this list as much as they like and rank all 62 people on the list.
All papers must be returned by August 6 and the announcement of the party list will be announced no later than September 1.
"This is a time consuming process, but one which is well worth while," said Ian Stephens. "It is democracy in action."
"The members of the Green party are selecting the party list and this process allows for genuine grass roots participation and input," he said.
