The Business of Arts

The Business of Arts

The second of the popular Business of Arts seminars for this year, Legal Issues will be held in Auckland on 5 May. Paul Tremewan a leading lecturer on legal matters has created this seminar especially for community arts organisations. What are the legal issues facing community arts organisations? Topics in this seminar include practical information on structures, employment law, contracting and health and safety. The forum will allow plenty of time for discussion on issues that the group may request.

Born in the late nineties out of a need identified by arts administrators and community arts groups, the Business of Arts Seminar Series was created in partnership with Auckland City Council, the Business School and the School of Creative and Performing Arts at the University of Auckland. After proving popular in Auckland City, it became apparent the issues relating to an ongoing lack of administrative, planning and organisational skills, were not geographical but common to many community arts initiatives. The series, which was by now an outstanding success in learning and networking, proved to have a demand in the wider region. In 2002, the series was extended to venues in Manukau, North Shore and Waitakere. This year the regional focus continues. The partnership between the University of Auckland and the Auckland, Manukau, North Shore and Waitakere City Councils means the seminars can continue be provided at a low cost.
