Retired computers wanted for charity
The Hazmobile hazardous waste collection has teamed up with The Ark to save old and retired computers from the scrap heap on Saturday, June 26.
The Ark gathers retired computers from businesses, government departments and individuals giving them a new lease of life to offer them to schools and charitable organisations.
North Shore City Council's waste minimisation team leader, Michelle Kaczor, says to look around for unused computers, laptops or colour monitors and bring them down to the Hazmobile collection so they can be put to good use.
The computers have to be working with Pentium ll or Celeron processors, which people can check by looking at the sticker on the side.
All data will be deleted securely and the computers set up so the schools and charities can use them.
"Not only is this good for the environment, but it is a great way to help those in need who never believed they could afford a computer," Ms Kaczor says.
Hazmobile will be at the TelstraClear carpark, cnr Taharoto and Northcote Rds in Takapuna on Saturday June 26, 10am - 2pm.
