Waiheke Presents Gorgeous Gardens & Award-Winning Art - For A Great Cause

Looking for ideas and inspiration to turn your garden into an outdoor gallery? Look no further than the 2005 Waiheke Retravision Jassy Dean Trust Garden Safari on November 12-13.

The organisers of Waiheke’s premier gardening event are delighted to announce that their 5th annual safari has been extended to include an award-winning exhibition of garden art in a coastal setting.

The brainchild of the Waiheke Community Art Gallery, ‘Art Out There’ scooped the prestigious Judges’ Supreme Award at last year’s Ellerslie Flower Show and also won a gold medal at Ellerslie in 2003.

This year ‘Art Out There’, which features more than 100 works by leading New Zealand artists and sculptors, will be staged on Waiheke Island instead to support the 2005 Waiheke Retravision Jassy Dean Trust Garden Safari.

The Jassy Dean Trust was formed in 1992 in memory of Waiheke teenager Jassy Dean, who died of meningitis. The garden safari is the trust’s major fundraiser, with all proceeds from ticket sales going to support sick children and their families on Waiheke, as well as those who need to seek medical treatment off the island.

Seventeen gardens - from contemporary courtyards to clifftop hideaways with spectacular coastal views - will be open to the public for the weekend of November 12-13, with ‘Art Out There’ exhibited in eleven of the gardens. All of the art works are for sale.

“The garden safari offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy our island’s unspoilt natural landscapes as well as its beautiful gardens and ‘Art Out There’ will add an exciting new dimension to this year’s event,” says Jassy Dean Trust chairman Greg Dean.

“We think it’s a wonderful opportunity to work together to support the trust and to bring a range of leading artists’ work to the island for visitors to view in unique garden environments,” adds Waiheke Community Art Gallery director Penny Ericson.

Weekend passes cost $20 per person, but an early-bird discount is available for tickets purchased before November 1. Tickets are strictly limited to 2000 to avoid traffic congestion on Waiheke’s roads - so be in quick!

Tickets are available from Jill Cameron, phone (09) 372 8442, and from the Waiheke Community Art Gallery, 2 Korora Rd, Oneroa, phone (09) 372 9907 or (09) 372 9917. For further details, visit www.jassydeantrust.co.nz.

The 2005 Waiheke Retravision Jassy Dean Trust Garden Safari is proudly supported by Waiheke Retravision, Fullers Ferries, Subritzky Shipping, Placemakers Waiheke, Premium Real Estate Waiheke and Snapper Graphics.
