Airport Rebuff’s Mayor’s Criticism

The Paraparaumu Airport Coalition has replied in strong terms to the KCDC’s Mayor’s refusal to appoint an independent chair for the Airport Forum on Sunday.

The Mayor, Alan Milne, has challenged the Coalition to provide any proof of his bias during his term in office.

The Coalition says the most glaring example of the Mayor’s one-sidedness is that he has not consulted with them about any of the arrangements for the Forum.

It says it asked the Mayor five days ago for a full agenda and has not been provided with anything.

The Airport Coalition says Mr Milne has allowed the developer Mr Noel Robinson to give lengthy presentations to the Council on two occasions during the past year.

But, the Coalition says, he has failed to show up at either of the Coalition public meetings.

The Coalition says the Mayor has not taken any action for nearly a year on appeals for proper public consultation on the Airport issue.

Coalition convenor Alan Tristram says: “We also need to consider the time before Mr Milne became Mayor.

“If he had links with people or firms who wanted to develop the airport then, it’s obvious the public will scent bias.

“You can’t be one person before you become Mayor, and then magically change your spots when you change into mayoral robes.”
