Signs up, no excuses
August 1, 2007
Permanent overnight liquor ban signs have been erected in a North Shore City business district and two city parks. The overnight bans apply to the Takapuna central business district; Birkenhead War Memorial Domain including Mahara Ave and John Court St; and Ngataringa Park in Devonport.
The bans, which came into effect last month, will operate between the hours of 9pm and 6am, and between 10pm and 6am during daylight saving hours.
North Shore City Council’s senior environmental protection advisor, Ian Parker, says with the signs now in place, people should be aware that consuming alcohol in these public areas during the restricted times is an offence.
“The bans seek to reduce the problems caused by excessive drinking in these areas and to assist police in crime prevention.
“The overnight ban will help provide a safer environment for the community,” he says.
