Maori landowners to challenge Mayoral Candidates At Paraparaumu Airport
Mr Peter Love, of Te Ati Awa, spokesman for the Maori former landowners at Paraparaumu Airport, will hold a special media conference at Paraparaumu Airport at 1pm on Friday, September 28.
All mayoral candidates in Kapiti are being invited to attend and hear the views of Maori on developments at the Airport, including proposals by Air New Zealand for scheduled passenger services to Auckland and Christchurch.
Mr Love, who is chair of the Te Whanau a te Ngarara, is expected to refute claims by some election candidates that Maori land claims are being satisfactorily dealt with under the present RMA process.
He is expected to be accompanied by Maori descendants and relatives of the former owners, who had the land compulsorily taken from them by the Government for war purposes in the 1940's.
