Christmas Food Appeal This Saturday
Christmas Food Appeal This Saturday
Grocery shoppers are asked to give generously this Saturday as Wellington’s food banks hold their food appeal at supermarkets in Wellington, Porirua and Upper Hutt.
From 9am on Saturday volunteers from Downtown Community Ministry are collecting food and financial donations at Newtown and Willis St New World supermarkets.
Food stocks are
desperately needed to prepare for the busy Christmas
period.
Items most needed are: tinned fish, meat meals,
canned vegetables, spreads, tinned fruit, milk powder and
cereals.
Local coordinator David Cross says, “We’re calling on all Wellingtonians to donate generously and help those in need survive the holiday season”.
“It’s often right after Christmas when food banks are needed the most,” he says. “The food runs out and people turn to the food bank for help.”
“We want to see people going home with full and nutritious food parcels so that no one is hungry at Christmas”, says Mr Cross.
