Free bikes
on trains gets thumbs up from cyclists
Wellington cyclists
are applauding the Regional Council's decision to remove the
charge for taking a bicycle on local trains.
Yesterday,
Greater Wellington’s Transport and Access committee
announced it will remove the charge for bikes on trains from
1 July, to encourage the use of both active and public
transport.
Cycle Aware Wellington member Claire Pascoe
says it is a common-sense decision by Greater
Wellington.
“As the price of petrol skyrockets, more
people are looking to reduce their dependence on
driving.”
“Making it easier to take bikes on trains is
a step towards making Wellington a more resilient and
sustainable place.”
“Our next priority is getting bike
racks on buses, as they have been trialling in
Christchurch.”
