Street Trolley Derby Back On

Street Trolley Derby Back On

Nelson's The Collingwood Street Trolley Derby is back on for next year with a big new sponsor and a line up of additional sponsored trophies.

Organisers announced in June that the popular derby would be taking a year off before returning in a new revamped form. However coordinator Antony Hodgson says fans put the pressure on for a derby next year. ³We were overwhelmed with the support from trolley fans and we are very pleased to let them know that South

Canterbury Finance is on board as the new sponsor for the event, to be held on Saturday 28 February 2009.² South Canterbury Finance has been operating since 1926 and is one of New Zealand¹s leading finance companies. It opened premises in the new Wakatu Building in Montgomery Square earlier this year.

General Manager Gene Cooper says South Canterbury Finance¹s strength is built in the provinces (it conducts business in 13 provincial centres), making sponsorship of the derby a natural fit for the company. ³We are strong supporters of events with family involvement and will use our Gold Sponsor status with the Child Cancer Foundation at the trolley derby to raise funds for families facing up to child cancer in the Nelson region.² Derby supporters have also rustled up additional sponsorship that will go into new trophies for individual events, and design competitions for adults and kids.

The Collingwood Street Trolley Derby is presented by the Nelson City Council as part of the Summer in Nelson programme - a celebration for locals and an added attraction for visitors. The Council would like to thank Collingwood Street Fresh Choice for its past sponsorship of this event.

South Canterbury Finance has $2 billion in assets and an investment grade rating from international rating agency Standard & Poors. In the year to June 30, 2008 the group reported an unaudited Net Profit before Tax of $82.7 million.
