We'll Beat the Cistern-CEO
"Rank stupidity," that's how the chief executive of Rodney District Council has greeted the revelation that a previous Rodney Council voted to limit showers in the district to 9 litres a minute.
This comes hard on the heels of a proposal by the Government that showers should be restricted even further to six litres a minute.
"I thought ours was bad," says Rodger Kerr-Newell. "But what is proposed here is frankly ridiculous and a gross intrusion in our lives.
"One minute they are in our bedroom, next they want to be in our bathroom"
When asked what he would do about his own council's by-law, Rodger Kerr-Newell responded that he would move immediately to recommend to councillors that they rescind the by-law.
"Furthermore," he says," we're putting the Government on notice that we will firmly oppose any attempt to get this written into law.
"We plan to beat the cistern if we can."
