Free Auckland Anniversary Weekend Port tours
Free Auckland Anniversary Weekend Port tours
Ports of Auckland is running free boat tours of the Port during Auckland Anniversary Weekend.
The tours will run on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 January at 11.30 am, 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm, departing by ferry from Pier 4 on Quay Street.
“Taking a boat tour is a fun way for families to finish the school holidays,” says Ports of Auckland spokesperson Catherine Etheredge.
“The boat tours provide a safe and secure way to get up close to busy port operations, our big machines and a range of large ships in port.”
The 40 minute tours, which include a detailed commentary about the Port and its shared history with Auckland city, are suitable for all ages.
“Bookings are essential and we encourage people to get in early,” Ms Etheredge said.
Bookings can be made online at www.poal.co.nz or by calling 0800 AK PORT.
This special series of free tours is being offered by Ports of Auckland as part of the Auckland Anniversary Weekend celebrations run by Auckland City Council.
Ports of Auckland will also be participating in other events during the celebrations, including the Seafood Festival Blessing of the Fleet and the Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta, which it also sponsors, to be held on Monday 26 January for the 169th time.
“We’re delighted to sponsor such a historic event as the Regatta and hope to keep up Ports of Auckland’s winning form in the third annual tugboat race,” Ms Etheredge said.
