The Inaugral Artstreet Contest Launches In Devonport
A new event called ArtStreet is being launched in Devonport on Sunday 5th April 2009 all for a great cause. The inaugural event is a children’s art competition using ‘chalk on pavement’, where proceeds from the event will be going to local cancer charity, Kenzie’s Gift www.kenziesgift.com .
The family fun day out is being held at number 58 Church Street Devonport, the venue kindly being donated free of charge by Atlas Plumbing owner, Peter Vandenberg, from 11am to 2pm. Children entering the competition will be divided into one of three age groups: 5-7; 8-10 and 11-12 years. They will be briefed by the judges and given a set time to complete their artwork. All children taking part will get a certificate, but the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed children in each age group will get some awesome prizes:
5-7 years – House of Toys Vouchers worth $75; $50 and $35
8-10 years – Cash Prizes of $150; $100 and $75
11-12 years – Cash Prizes of $250; 150 and $100
Entry to the art competition is just $5 per child, but for all other members of the public, entry is free. There will be loads of other activities going on such as caricature painting by budding art students; face painting; bouncy castles; music bands; sausage sizzle; whippy ice cream and lots more.
Nic Russell, founder of Kenzie’s Gift said, “It’s just fantastic to be able to benefit from this great event – the children will love it and we will love it as proceeds will go to helping even more famililies in the community who are affected by cancer. There is total synergy with ArtStreet as the Kenzie’s Gift Specialist Play Therapists use art as part of their psychological support.”
Peter Vandenberg, commented, “This event would not have been possible without the financial support of our fabulous sponsors. Thank you to all our sponsors, many of whom are from the local community. This is just the start – we have visions of this event getting bigger and better year on year and to eventually become a celebration of urban art and artists in its widest sense”.
Tickets on the gate for those entering the art competition, or for further information, please contact Pippa Turley on 445 2643. If bad weather forces a cancellation of the event, a notice will be posted on http://www.devonportdirectory.co.nz/ by 9am on the day. The postponed event will be re-organised for Sunday 26th April.
