Tight
Contest For Super City Mayoralty
A new poll shows Manukau City Mayor Len Brown marginally in front of Auckland City Mayor John Banks in a head-to-head match-up for the Super City Mayoralty. The UMR Research poll shows Len Brown on 35% and John Banks on 34%, with 31% undecided.
UMR also tested a head-to-head match up between John Banks and Auckland Regional Council chair Mike Lee. Banks was ahead of Lee by 35% to 18%.
These results suggest a potentially close battle in a contest between Len Brown and John Banks. Brown enjoys a lot of support in Auckland’s south, and with older voters, but also polls well against Banks across the region. Banks is more popular with younger voters.
These results are based upon questions asked of a representative sample of 482 Auckland residents in two UMR Research omnibus surveys from 18th to 22nd June and 2nd to 6th July. The margin of error for sample size of 482 for a 50% figure at the ‘95% confidence level’ is ± 4.5%.
