Passenger numbers up with
new bus service
For immediate release:Tuesday 18
August 2009
The new Bay Hopper service is into its
second month under the new Tauranga urban bus contract with
Go Bus Transport Ltd and passenger numbers are
up.
Figures show that 101,400 passengers used the
new Bay Hopper service in July 2009 compared to 81,609 the
previous month in June and 96,200 one year ago in July
2008.
Environment Bay of Plenty Transport Committee
Chairman Andrew von Dadelszen said he was pleased to see
that the service had increased patronage under the new
contract.
“We expected numbers to level or to go
down slightly while passengers got used to the new routes
and timetables but these figures show we’re on the right
track. Particularly pleasing is that in July over 29,000
passengers used the new direct routes 1 and 2 between Mt
Maunganui and Greerton.
“We’re aware that
there are still a few intermittent issues with Route 60 but
we’re working to find solutions for this.
“The
nature of the contract with Go Bus means that if services
and times aren’t working, making changes is a much easier
process for both parties,” Councillor von Dadelszen
said.
