Charity Gaming Assoc now Community Gaming Assoc

The CGA has changed its name to Community Gaming Association (Inc) to better reflect the role of members in the communities where they operate.

The Associations Board also elected a new Chairman yesterday following its Annual General Meeting.

John Burke replaces Rt Hon Paul East QC who was the independent Chairman of the Association since 2002.

John Burke is Chairman of the Mana Community Grants Foundation and brings extensive governance experience to the Board. He is a former mayor of Porirua City and is currently an elected member of the Greater Wellington Regional Council.

The CGA has matured as an organisation and the decision by the members to change the name to emphasise our community connections sends a strong message about the importance of our role in supporting the communities where our fund raising activities are located.

CGA members raise funds in communities from the far north to the deep south and focus on delivering value back to those communities where we operate. We will emphasise the strength of our community connections in all our activities.

The CGA and our stakeholders owe a debt of gratitude to Paul East for his tireless advocacy of our unique gaming for community benefit system. He has led us through many important challenges and we have been much better off for his involvement. It is now time for people from the Class 4 sector to take up the leadership cudgels on their own behalf and the need for an independent Chairman has passed.
