Hey Paul Henry, Riff Raff Cam is live now!

The new ‘Riff Raff Cam’ beaming out Hamilton’s Riff Raff Statue is live now, contrary to Breakfast host Paul Henry’s claim that it is not yet online.

Paul Henry told Breakfast viewers this morning that the Riff Raff Statue is the “best thing in Hamilton” and that the plan to launch Riff Raff Cam is a “great idea”.

“Thanks heaps for the kind words Paul, but Riff Raff Cam is live right now!” says statue and webcam initiator Mark Servian.

Riff Raff Cam was launched on 26 November- Riff Raff’s 5th Birthday - so statue visitors can text their friends and say “hey look where I am!”

Since going live with little fanfare, visits to the Riffraffstatue.org website have already doubled. All manner of odd goings-on have been seen at the statue.

Riff Raff Cam is already an online pilgrimage site - one Sydney fan has been regularly twittering statue goings-on via http://twitter.com/mollyarabella.

“Riffraffstatue.org has been a great scrapbook on the statue’s controversial history since launching three years ago, but Riff Raff Cam has made it into a VERY live site,” says Mark, chair of the Riff Raff Public Arts Trust that facilitated the statue’s installation in 2004.

Great new signage showing how to do the Time Warp - in a ‘stick man’ public information style - has been put up behind the statue to promote Riff Raff Cam. It’s the imaginative work of the Waikato Museum, the statue’s curator.

“If anyone is planning a colourful event or action at Riff Raff and want people to know it can be seen online via Riff Raff Cam, email rkotower@riffraffstatue.org ahead of time and we’ll promote it on the website,” says Mark.

Riff Raff Cam and its signage was made possible with the help of Velocity Networks, Rural Link, Black Sheep Creative, Snapshot Cameras, Catley Properties, the Hamilton City Council and the Waikato Museum.
