Update 5 – Tsunami Warning Cancelled
Update 5 – Tsunami Warning Cancelled
A
national tsunami advisory has now been cancelled but
Northlanders should bear in mind there may still be some
unusual wave movements and tidal surges throughout the
day.
Graeme MacDonald, spokesman for the Northland Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group, says sea level data indicates the peak of the unusual Northland activity following the recent large Chilean earthquake has now passed.
However, scientists are warning there will still be some sea level fluctuations and tidal effects for the rest of the day throughout the country, including Northland.
“We’re asking Northlanders to bear that in mind.”
Mr MacDonald says Northland continued to experience some surges and unusual conditions in coastal areas overnight but officials had no reports of damage or injury.
