“Mr Banks is living in a dream world if he thinks that Auckland can host an Olympic games within the next decade or two.
One should not forget the long term debt incurred by Sydney or Greece as a result of hosting the games- Hosting the games in 2000 cost Sydney $6.5 Billion and Athens in 2004 cost Greece around $15 Billion.
Given Auckland’s urgent need to meet the cost of transport infrastructure and leaky buildings in addition to the costs of transitioning to a Super City, Banks’ proposal is about as far fetched as it gets.”
