Good morning for Joe Flavell at IPC Athletics
For immediate release Good
morning for Joe Flavell at IPC
Athletics
January 25, 2011
Auckland’s Joe Flavell was not a medal winner but he recorded four personal best throws in the F42 shot put at the IPC Athletics Championships in Christchurch this morning.
Warming up with a throw of 10.61m, just outside his best, his next five throws were 11.01m, 10.47m, 10.93m, 11.01m and 11.17m.
Surprisingly, in a competition of this intensity, Flavell’s best two throws were his last two. He finished seventh in the competition won by Russia’s Maxim Narozhnyy with a throw of 14.23m, just outside the world record.
Wellington’s Kate Horan’s T44 100m heat this morning was cancelled and she now moves straight to the final at 4.10pm tomorrow. Matthew Lack (Opotiki) is the only New Zealander competing this afternoon in the T54 1500m heats.
