More BP sites re-open in Christchurch

BP Oil NZ has had every available truck in its fleet working to bring fuel into Christchurch throughout the day, and more sites have re-opened following Tuesday’s earthquake.

BP NZ Managing Director Mike McGuinness said there was plenty of fuel in the region, and the company would continue to work through the weekend to keep sites stocked.

“We now have x retail sites re-opened in the city, and expect to open more within the next week.

“There has been strong demand for fuel in the area, and it going to take us some time to replenish stocks. We advise customers that there may continue to be short-term stock-outs at some sites for the next few days as we work to catch up to demand. We want to assure customers we are doing all we can to keep sites topped up.

“There is plenty of fuel in the ports, and we are still urging customers to just take what the need while we work to keep sites stocked.

“We’re grateful to our staff who have been working hard to get sites and services up and running again. It has been extremely busy, and, like everyone in Christchurch, they are working in extremely difficult and worrying circumstances. They make us very proud,” Mr McGuinness said.

BP re-opened its Lyttelton oil terminal yesterday, providing an important local supply. And fuel delivered into Timaru port yesterday would continue to be trucked into the city throughout the weekend.

• Woodend Service Station - diesel only
• BP 2go West Melton, BP 2go Halswell , BP 2go Sockburn and Sawyers Arms BP - only open to Emergency Services
• BP Connect Fendalton, BP Connect Hoon Hay – open but awaiting fuel delivery
