Antique and Classic Boat Show goes global
This weekend's Antique and Classic Boat show at Lake Rotoiti will have a global presence with boating enthusiasts via the popular US website woodyboater.com.
Boat show organiser Pete Rainey says he emailed the website and told them about the show.
"I told them where it was and that many people from Christchurch are coming to the show to find solace and lift their spirits after the earthquake," he said. "I was blown away to see they are featuring us on their home page with extensive coverage including a lot of photos from past years."
The woodyboater coverage is headed: "Where Are We Today ¬ Lake Tahoe, Lake Como, Ft. Lauderdale, or...none of the above. Today we are in Lake Rotoiti, New Zealand."
The article goes on to say that, from the evidence of Nelson's boat show 'the antique & classic boating hobby is alive and well in New Zealand'.
The 12th Antique and Classic Boat Show runs both days this weekend with the same format each day ¬ on shore displays in the morning and races on the lake in the afternoon. Judging will take place on Saturday, ahead of an evening awards dinner at the Alpine Lodge.
All boats will be checked for noxious aquatic weeds, and oil leaks before entering the water; and boaties are reminded to be aware of minimising the spread of didymo. And remember DOC has released Kiwi into the National Park very close to where the show takes place, so no antique and classic dogs please!
