Beijing Next Opportunity for Olympic Qualification
New Zealand’s male triathletes will have another opportunity to qualify for the London Olympic Games at the final round of the ITU World Championship Series in Beijing in September.
Given no male athlete met the criteria of a top ten finish in London on the weekend, the next opportunity for an athlete to secure a nomination to the London games comes at the Beijing World Champs Series event on September 10th. The criteria for this race is for a New Zealand athlete to be in the top eight finishers and the first Kiwi across the line.
Subsequent to Beijing, the next opportunity to meet the selection criteria will come at a yet to be determined ITU World Champs Series race in early 2012.
With Andrea Hewitt having secured one of the possible 3 spots for the women at the London Olympics, the next opportunity for the women will be in early 2012, Beijing will not be an Olympic qualifying race for the women.
