NZTA takes precautionary measures at Waioeka Gorge in preparation for more heavy rain ahead

With heavy rain forecasted over the next few days, the NZ Transport Agency is taking precautionary measures to minimise slip material getting onto the road.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Bay of Plenty State Highway Manager, Brett Gliddon says with more heavy rain expected today through to Saturday the NZTA, will be moving concrete barriers onto the middle of the road to control slip material.

Mr Gliddon says the Gorge had some small slip movements yesterday due to rain in an area near Sandy’s Bridge, he says it is likely that more material will loosen from the rain causing it to slide from the rock face and possibly onto the road.

We thank motorists for their patience and cooperation whilst driving through the temporary speed restriction and single lane diversion, we expect this to be removed shortly after the heavy rain has ended, says Mr Gliddon.
