The Hospice Cuppa: Take a Break For a Good Cause

The Hospice Cuppa: Take a Break For a Good Cause

Thank you for giving your love and time to our family during our time of need. Thank you for the numerous trips out at short notice, for all the time you spent on the phone to us – to reassure, advise, and simply listen on the sad days. You were my friend through all this and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you standing by me.

This quote is from a thank you card that was recently sent to Hospice West Auckland. You probably know that Hospice cares for people who are dying. What you might not know is the extent to which Hospice is there for their families. Hospice West Auckland is there for people when they need emotional support, offering a range of services including counselling, therapeutic massage, art therapy and spiritual support.

And Hospice West Auckland provides all this at no cost to patients and their families.

But there is a cost to Hospice.

Hospice West Auckland relies on the generosity of the community to support their important work. Hosting a Hospice Cuppa is any easy way for you to help Hospice help patients and families.

What is a Hospice Cuppa? It’s an afternoon coffee your family, a high tea event with your Lions club, a morning tea at work or a cocktail party with friends. Your Hospice Cuppa can be as big or as small as you wish. Your workplace could incorporate a casual Friday, a bake-off, or a competition between departments to see who can raise the most money. Other hosts might include a raffle, a ‘west is best’ theme or a clothes swap. A Hospice Cuppa could be a baby shower, a kitchen tea or a birthday party.

All hosts will receive a free pack including Dilmah Tea, Caffe L’affare coffee and recipes by 2011 Masterchef winner Nadia Lim. All you have to do is provide the food (or ask your guests to bring a plate), and encourage your guests to make a donation.

Long-serving Hospice volunteer Zita Kay recently hosted her Hospice Cuppa. Zita baked up a storm, enjoyed catching up with her neighbours, and raised funds for Hospice West Auckland (photos attached).

Gordon Campbell: On The US Opposition To Mortgage Interest Deductibility For Landlords

Should landlords be able to deduct the interest on the loans they take out to bankroll their property speculation?
