Skyline Queenstown celebrates mountain biking success

Media Release from Skyline Queenstown

9 May 2012

Skyline Queenstown launches new website and celebrates mountain biking success

Skyline Queenstown, one of the most popular and certainly most spectacular attractions in the world-renowned resort, continues in its exceptional position in New Zealand tourism.

Skyline has capitalized on that burgeoning success with a brand new Skyline website, launched just last month. The magnificent location, outstanding views and information about the great diversity of experiences – Gondola, Luge, mountain biking, restaurant and retail - is now easily accessible online.

Skyline’s Sales and Development Manager Ome Allington explains that extensive market research was undertaken to ensure a user-friendly and easily navigable website.

“It may seem simple, but the website had to have just that right balance of clear presentation and ease of access to information. It also, of course, had to capture the fun-filled nature of what Skyline offers.”

Ms Allington also suggests that such is the importance of internet links and online recommendations, a dedicated marketing person is employed full time to manage social media.

“We value our customers’ feedback and input into what we do and how we do it, and recognise that social media now plays a huge part in this.”

Mountain biking at Queenstown Bike Park has proved to be a real success story, with the first full season of gondola-accessed downhill mountain biking coming to a close.

Last month Queenstown Skyline celebrated the gondola transporting its 100,000th biker to the Queenstown Bike Park, the lucky rider taking away a month’s supply of ‘One Square Meals’.

After a delayed start to the 2011/2012 summer season due to wet weather, Skyline Queenstown is also “giving back” to its mountain biking community of loyal enthusiasts, extending the gondola transport season by a month into the last week of May.

Skyline Gondola provides access to over 12 world-class mountain bike trails and varying terrain for all abilities. A 450m rise via the Skyline Gondola gives riders easy access to more than 30km of tracks including the longest run of 6km.

A major mountain biking event held in March put Queenstown mountain biking on the map as the only gondola-accessed ‘Sweat Free’ facility in the Southern Hemisphere.

Of course this only adds kudos to all the other attractions already celebrated and enjoyed at Skyline Queenstown.

Skyline Luge provides 800m of fun, fast-paced freedom, Skyline restaurant serves up delicious New Zealand fare matched with the best views in town, and Kiwi Haka is Queenstown’s leading Maori cultural experience.

It all combines to make Skyline Queenstown one of Queenstown’s, if not New Zealand’s, most loved destinations.
