Rotorua Set To Showcase Its Marriage Mecca

Rotorua Set To Showcase Its Marriage Mecca

Winter Weddings; Latest Trend

ROTORUA, Monday 21st May 2012: Getting married in one of New Zealand’s most sought-after locations will become easier than ever when Rotorua hosts its largest ever wedding show next month.

The Hitched wedding show will be held at the Rotorua Convention Centre on Sunday 3rd June 2012, and will demonstrate why the city is fast becoming New Zealand’s ultimate wedding destination.

Hitched show director Peter Duncan, founder and managing director of theWeddingGuy, says there has been an increasing upward trend in the number of couples choosing Rotorua to get married since he first launched his wedding planning services in 2008 and anticipates another 20 per cent increase in Rotorua weddings this year.

“You just can’t beat Rotorua as a quintessential one-stop wedding destination. Rotorua offers some of the most stunning locations you will find anywhere in the country - gorgeous gardens, historic churches, private holiday homes set on the edges of beautiful lakes and lush native bush, not to mention five star, award-winning luxury lodges and top international cuisine,” Duncan explains.

Sought-after wedding and honeymoon locations include Lake Okareka Lodge (named as one of the top 10 honeymoon destinations in the world last year); Peppers on the Point; Rydges Hotel; Princes Gate Hotel; Amora Lake Resort; and the Wai Ora Lakeside Spa Resort. These romantic hideaways offer exquisite surroundings and make a dream-come-true wedding venue.

Duncan says Rotorua offers options to suit all budgets, and weddings do not have to be lavish, costly affairs. “A new trend we are seeing is for brides and grooms to opt for a winter wedding as a way of keeping costs down,” he says. “You can save as much as 50 per cent just by having your wedding in the off-season.”

“We are also seeing an increasing number of ex-pat New Zealanders electing to return home to marry. On average, 30 per cent of our planning business is a result of enquiries received from overseas-based clients who are recognising the level of choice here, not seen elsewhere in New Zealand.”

Rotorua also has an unrivalled range of activities for creating memorable stag’s and hen’s events. There’s everything from paintball; rock climbing; sky diving; Zorb rides; vertical bungy; 4x4 off roading;
and white water rafting to more relaxing activities like golf; winery tours; thermal hot pools and luxurious spa treatments.

Destination Rotorua Marketing (DRM) is a platinum partner in this year’s show and general manager Oscar Nathan says with Rotorua winning the “Most Beautiful City” award six times in the last 11 years,
it’s not difficult to see why Rotorua is the preferred choice for couples seeking a unique and beautiful wedding destination.

“The venue opportunities in Rotorua are phenomenal and wedding service providers in this region are outstanding. Hitched is a great opportunity to make a weekend of it and visit Rotorua to
experience the city’s fantastic attractions and facilities first-hand.”

About 900 people attended the inaugural Hitched wedding show in 2011, and Duncan expects numbers to double this year. Over 80 different trade exhibitors will be at the show and available
 to sit down one-on-one with couples in specially designed “chat zones” to discuss their individual requirements.

All brides at the show will receive the newly launched Rotorua wedding booklet and complimentary food and beverage tastings throughout the day with the first 200 brides also receiving a
special goodie bag on arrival. Tickets are available at the door for $5 each (children up to 15 years free), or via Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.co.nz).
