Otaki Village Street Party schedule

SCHEDULE
During day: Tape artists decorating Otaki Museum/Family Hotel walls.
1600: Road closed, setup.
1700: Puke Wara and friends on stage outside Memorial Hall.
1730: Karakia, speeches by Acting Mayor Roger Booth and Otaki Cr Penny Gaylor.
1740: Fairy Trina storyteller giving a 'wish' for the 'new Otaki Village' and ribbon cutting.
1745: Kapa haka in front of stage.
1800 (after dark): Beginning of Matariki lantern parade with 150-200 participants carrying lanterns. Accompanied by special music, pois, stilt walker, fire dancer, drummers roller derby girls.
1820-1830: End of parade at War Memorial Park.
1830: Second kapa haka group (about 90 participants) on roadway outside War Memorial Park.
1830: Stage end, Henpicked perform.
1900: Park end, Taiko drummers perform.
1915: Black Eyed Susie on stage.
2000: Mystery Machine on stage.
2100: Closedown.

Throughout the evening, there will be face painting, story telling, a quick fire raffle, a ukelele performance (Civic Theatre), bouncy castle and slide (Matene St intersections), impromptu giveaways and prizes, and other activities. Food will be provided by Main Street eateries, and Te Wananga o Raukawa will have a stall with kai samples and information.
