East Coast Vibes Hits Gisborne on Waitangi Weekend

MEDIA RELEASE: Monday 15th October, 9am

East Coast Vibes Hits Gisborne on Waitangi Weekend

Gisborne now has its own roots music festival, and organisers are expecting up to 5,000 people from The East Cape, Eastern Bay Of Plenty and Hawkes Bay to make the journey for a festival like no other in the region.

"East Coast Vibes was born simply because there’s a need for a decent music festival that caters to us, the local market,” says Festival Director Rob Coe-Tipene of Tolaga Bay.

“So we went and put together a mix of Aotearoa’s most loved roots, reggae, dub and R&B acts that epitomise the Coasts laid back vibe, for one huge day to celebrate Waitangi weekend, our diverse community and Bob Marley’s anniversary [born 6th Feb, 1945]’

The festival is to be held at Gisborne’s Outdoor Theatre on Midway beach. Organisers say they expect a relaxed atmosphere, with a lineup bands artists and DJs to suit the local market.

The stellar lineup includes reggae heavyweights KATCHAFIRE; the laid back roots sounds of CORNERSTONE ROOTS; the rich and soulful tones of RIA HALL; R&B sensation PIETER T; talented roots / rock / reggae fusion band SONS OF ZION; Ex- pat kiwis roots band now based in Australia, DARKY ROOTS; one of the country’s powerhouse funk voices BELLA KALOLO; the smooth reggae vocals of CHAD CHAMBERS; and the rock reggae fusion sound of Wellington band VINTAGE. Organisers say more acts will be announced in November.

Details on the $45 Early Bird tickets, VIP passes, local accommodation options and festival information can all be found at www.eastcoastvibes.co.nz With such a stellar lineup and affordable ticket prices, East Coast Vibes will no doubt sell out - so festival goers will need to get in early before it’s too late!
