Fair Silent Auction Gets Noisy
Upper
Moutere School is having its Village Fair on Saturday
November the 3rd and for the first time their famous Silent
Auction will have a unique live auction for two special
items.
The auction runs from 11 til 1.30 and immediately after it closes there will be a live auction of a hot lap with V8 Super Tourer champion John McIntyre in his actual race car. John will be there for the live auction– with his promotional car so you can see what you’re bidding for and he’s happy to sign autographs.
John’s daughters go to Upper Moutere school and he has also kindly donated an FPR Pit Crew Shirt signed by many of the Bathurst drivers including Winner Jamie Whincup from the recent race in Australia and that will be the second lot in the live auction.
Silent Auction organiser Vanessa Mairs says they’re thrilled to be able to have this live auction this year.
“The silent auction is actually really exciting as the tension builds near towards the 1.30 finish time but I think having a loud and vibrant silent auction right at the end will just get the adrenalin really pumping. Especially as John has donated such great prizes and we know from our last fair two years ago that the bidding for John’s hot lap was frantic as part of the silent auction so it should be a lot of fun to have these lots go under the hammer live, “ says Vanessa.
The Silent Auction will have around 200 lots to bid on with a retail value of over $18,000. The range includes generous donations of unique art, household items, sporting goods, clothing, great wines and foods, equipment, fabulous and unique arts, and vouchers for accommodation, travel and family activities around the country and professional and trade services.
Vanessa Mairs says when she started approaching businesses for donations several months ago, the economic downturn seemed to be having an effect on what people could donate but she says that’s all turned around in the past two months.
“I’ve been overwhelmed with the generosity and we have fantastic, quality new items and offers of services. There really is something for everyone, no matter what your interests or your budget and we know from previous years that lots of people pick up real bargains.”
So that people can browse for items they might like to bid on in advance, there is now a list and a downloadable PDF with items under categories of the items on the school website www.uppermoutere.school.nz and click on the Village Fair picture . then the silent auction heading.
The fair will include great stalls including white elephant, upmarket second hand clothing, books, cakes, produce, plants and of course lots of great food for the family as well as entertainment so families can enjoy lunch. Eftpos will be available.
New activities this year includes the ‘smash-a-car’, drive a digger and bobbing for apples and the Art for Kids stall.
The fair will be held at the school grounds the Moutere Highway in the village and will also extend down to the school’s playing field which borders Supplejack Valley road. There’s free parking and entry.
