Sailing Prize Will Give Luxury Experience To Hard Working Couple
A young Dunedin man and his partner are set for an $8,400 luxury holiday in the Abel Tasman after winning a contest run by Nelson based Gourmet Sailing.
Tom Wolfenden has been to the Abel Tasman before and sailed to New Zealand with his parents as a child, but Arapera, a paediatric doctor, has never visited the Abel Tasman National Park.
“I run a customized apparel business that I started when I was at university and Arapera has fellowship exams at the end of February,” he says. “We are tremendously over worked so could not really have dreamed of winning something as fitting as this… it will be a great wind down.”
Gourmet Sailing owner Milo Coldren says the prize package was put together with other businesses operating in the area, and was promoted through Facebook, the Wellington Home Show, the Auckland Food Show and in the Wellington magazine Fishhead.
“We had a really good response with 1485 entrants – it’s a very attractive prize with a Tasman Helicopters flight to Awaroa; dinner, bed and breakfast at Peppers Awaroa Lodge, a guided walk to Onetahuti with Wild Footprints, a half day trip with the Sea Kayak Company, and two days and one night on our Gourmet Sailing yacht Simply Wild, plus the Air New Zealand fares to Nelson.”
Milo says the response to the contest indicates there’s a lot of people interested in taking a holiday in the Abel Tasman that is more than a back-packer experience.
“Tom’s entry was drawn at random from people who filled in a survey that has given us a lot of information about this market,” he says. “We found out where people are getting their information, which is trending towards online sources, and we gathered other information about the types of experiences people are looking for.”
Gourmet Sailing was established in 2007 by Milo and Kimberly Coldren’s company Nelson Charters Ltd, catering to people who were looking for quality time with friends and families. Milo says it is gathering clients who range from locals on day trips, to European honeymooners and people booking longer trips to celebrate special occasions.
