Karl Barkley to stand for Clutha Southland
Karl Barkley to stand for Clutha Southland
I'm 56
year old Engineer with over 40 years as a Tradesman General
Engineer , I have 3 Adult Children .
I lived on the West Coast for 18 years and at Kaniere, Hokitika I set up my own Engineering business which I ran for 7 1/2 years . Since then I have lived in Southland for the last 14 years from 1999 .
I'm Looking forward to be standing as Clutha - Southland's Independent representative for all Voters from our Region .
I want to Help bring back more of the Huge Taxes Paid by our Region , as the % coming back to be spent in Clutha - Southland is very Low & is putting a Lot of strain on Local Councils to maintain the Roads & other Infrastructure.
I also want to work with Local Rural Communities to see how we can generate more Local New jobs in and around our Rural towns, which will help young person to get a job without having to move away to the Cities where a lot have had to go for work . Other wise they end up on the Dole which is no good for anyone in these Communities.
I will be working Closely with Local Councils & Farmers to make sure everybody in Clutha Southland can get Clean Drinking Water . In order to achieve this I also want to work with Organic or Natural Farmers in the Region to help get more of them working in this area of Clean Green Farming . There needs to be more money put into Manufacturing & marketing their Farm products, as this is more Environmentally Friendly for all living in our vast farming region.
I have another interest which is to get more Loads carried by Kiwi Rail , to do this we need to get Rail Sidings reinstated back at Sites Like Gore - Balclutha & many others .
I also want to see some form of Railcar
brought back to run a Daily Passenger Service returning from
Invercargill-Dunedin-Christchurch .This service would also
have capacity to carry express Parcel Freight to be Dropped
off & or Picked up along the route, this would help off set
the running cost's & keeping passenger tickets at a Lower
Price to encourage more people to use the service !
I
want to look into what can be done to get one of the several
Large Ventures which need to be set up to take over if Tiwai
Smelter is going to be wound up in 5 years or so with the
Loss of approx 3000 jobs .
