Bob Goes to the Races and Wins
Wellington businessman Bob Styles had good reason to visit Pukekohe motor racing circuit last Sunday morning for the final round of the 2013 V8 SuperTourers Championship - he had a one in three chance of winning a new car.
Along with Kate Wilkinson, of Auckland, and Brian Caie, of Christchurch, Mr Styles was in a draw to win a new $61,000 V8 SS Holden Commodore, the culmination of a four-month competition run by the Mike Pero Racing Team and its partners.
To enter the competition, contestants had to buy product or services of one of the team's partners.
Mr Styles, who runs motor vehicle workshops in the Wellington region, entered the draw when he bought MTA vouchers.
During a break in racing on Sunday, and in front of a crowd of more than 10,000 fans, all three finalists drew a key from Mike Pero team driver Greg Murphy's race helmet - but only Mr Styles' key unlocked the Holden.
Elated, but not quite speechless, Mr Styles said later: "I was just so thrilled with the prize".
"I've never won anything like this before in my life.
"I love my cars, and I've followed Greg Murphy in his racing for many years!"
