Auckland and Northland Regional Tree Climbing Competition

2015 Auckland and Northland Regional Tree Climbing Competition

Jellicoe Park in Onehunga will host this year’s New Zealand Arboricultural Association and Husqvarna Auckland and Northland Regional Tree Climbing Competition on Saturday 7 March 2015.

Preliminary events kick off at 8:00 am, followed by a whole day of tree climbing competition. The five competition events test the competitors’ ability to professionally and safely enter into and maneuver in a tree, while performing work-related tree climbing and aerial rescue tasks in a controlled and timely manner.

The competition provides a competitive but educational opportunity for working arborists to demonstrate and exchange new climbing techniques, equipment and safe work practices. It provides positive public exposure for the profession, demonstrating some of the skills of professional arborists.

The top competitors from this event will be qualifying for the NZ National Tree Climbing Championship held in October in Nelson.

Organiser Craig Webb encourages everybody to head along to Jellicoe Park for the competition: “Entrance for spectators is free and it’s a chance to see some of the very best competitors in action. We’re very lucky to have such a big talent pool in New Zealand and our climbers are consistently among the top in the world.”

Mr Webb adds: “Jellicoe Park is a spectacular setting with some outstanding trees. If you have never seen one of these events before they’re well worth checking out – the skill level is incredible and there will also be kids climbing, a coffee cart and a barbeque so something for everyone.”
