Major Mangamuka electricity repair job completed
Single high-voltage line supplying Kaitaia
and districts no longer under threat
Top Energy has completed successfully a $550,000 major engineering and repair project in the Mangamukas, averting the risk of a tower collapse that could potentially have disrupted power supplies to Kaitaia and surrounding districts for weeks.
Heavy rain in the Mangamukas shortly before Christmas caused a 100m-long land-slip in rough terrain which dislodged and severely damaged a lattice tower carrying the only high-voltage line supplying electricity to the town.
A replacement structure was built during February and March and on Sunday the final conductors (electricity lines) were switched from the failing tower to the new one.
