Go pink for Pinikilicious this Saturday
PRESS RELEASE: Go pink for Pinikilicious this Saturday
7 April 2015
Pink is the colour this weekend and Pinikilicious Organising Committee are calling all Pacific women of all ages in Porirua and other communities nearby to wear pink and be a part of the 3rd annual celebration of the Pinikilicious event, a campaign that encourages church communities to make the health and wellbeing of Pasifika women and girls one of their priorities.
Pinikilicious is a community outreach campaign that encourages church communities to pay tribute to the contribution of Pasifika women in churches, communities and families and to make the health and wellbeing of Pasifika women and girls’ one of their priorities.
Caroline Mareko, event coordinator says “Wearing pink for Pinikilicious day is important for our small community in Porirua, to show the whole of New Zealand that we stand together, unified, against diagnosis of any diseases, to achieve better survival outcomes for our Pasifika women.”
“We need for the rest of New Zealand to see our constant displays of kindness, love, and support to make womens’ health and wellbeing a priority.”
“One of our focus activities in the campaign is to target Pasifika women aged 45-69 years to register in the breast screening programme, as the uptake in this programme is still low in Porirua. We are also extending Pinikilicious to include registration for cervical screening and we are also supporting the elimination or reduction of domestic violence in families’ campaign.”
Pinikilicious pays tribute to Pasifika women and encourages them to be resilient, healthy, and courageous with a sense of fun and to be a part of campaigns and events that support them and their families.
It will be a day of pampering, sharing talents and stories, singing, dancing, eating, exercising, learning, laughing, crying, loving, worshiping and most importantly valuing the role of women in families and churches.
The Pinikilicious event is to be held this Saturday, 11 April, 2015 at the PIC Hall, 207 Champion Street, Cannons Creek, Porirua from 9:00am – 3:00pm.
