SCIRT traffic update, week starting Monday, 17 August, 2015

Dallington Bridge at Gayhurst Road opened today at midday

The new Dallington Bridge at Gayhurst Road opened midday Friday, 14 August. Removal of the nearby temporary footbridge on Avonside Dr starts from Monday 17 August. Traffic will be one-way westbound while the footbridge is removed.

Thanks to the community and travellers in this area for your patience during SCIRT’s construction of the new Gayhurst Road bridge.

Central City update

• Starting this week Madras St between Tuam and Lichfield Sts will be down to one lane for about 3 weeks. Please use alternative routes and avoid this area during peak hours.

Durham St is down to two lanes near Moorhouse Ave for another 3 weeks. Expect delays. Consider using Antigua, Barbadoes or Colombo Sts instead.

• The U-turn bays under the Moorhouse Ave overbridge are closed. Please follow the detour signs to access the Harvey Norman Centre or nearby supermarkets.

• The eastern intersection of Manchester and Worcester Sts will be closed. There will be no access into Manchester St from the eastern intersection of Worcester St, coming from Latimer Sq. There will also be no access across Manchester St from the western side of Worcester Street.

Manchester St is southbound only between Armagh and Hereford Sts. Try to avoid during peak hours.

Sections of Bealey Ave have temporary lane closures between Madras and Packe Sts. There is no exit from Madras St onto Bealey Ave. Southbound traffic on Madras St will detour.

Best ways to get through the city centre this week:

Northbound: Montreal St and Fitzgerald Ave

Southbound: Barbadoes St and Fitzgerald Ave

Eastbound: Salisbury St and Tuam St

Westbound: Moorhouse Ave, Kilmore St and St Asaph St

Aranui/Wainoni

See the latest Aranui map showing bus routes and detours.

• Work starts on Rowan Ave from Monday 17 August for about 10 weeks. Rowan Ave will be one-way northbound between Pages Rd and Carisbrooke St with the bus and other traffic continuing to access Rowan from Pages.

Pages Rd is one-way, city-bound only, between Bexley Reserve and Shuttle Dr. The south side of Pages Rd/Marlow Rd intersection has closed for about 3 weeks access available onto Pages Road on the north side shortly. Please watch for changes in the road layout and follow the signs.

• Work is ongoing to install the new vacuum wastewater mainline pipe along a section of Hampshire St and Portsmouth St. Road closures are in place for about 3 months.

Breezes Rd still one-way between Wainoni and Pages Rds. Please watch for pedestrians, cyclists and children coming and going from the two schools on Breezes Rd.

Doreen St is one-way.

Both the Bickerton/Wainoni and Shortland/Wainoni intersections have reopened. Thank you for your patience while they were closed. Please take extra care turning on to busy Wainoni Road.

Work in other suburbs

Edgeware

For about 1 week Colombo St (between Edgeware Rd and Canon Street) will be one-way with northbound traffic (from city) detoured via Caledonian.

Riccarton – Rotherham / Riccarton cnr closed

This week Riccarton Rd traffic won’t be able to turn in to Rotherham St from either direction. Rotherham St traffic will only be able to exit left on to Riccarton Rd. Follow the detour signs to access the Mall and businesses on Rotherham.

Spreydon & Somerfield – Barrington St

Traffic continues to be one-way northbound (towards city) on Barrington St. South-bound traffic please follow detours. Watch for road closures and turning restrictions where Barrington St intersects with Somerfield St, Rose St, Stanbury Ave and Studholme St.

Linwood

Woodham Rd may change to one-way westbound (towards Gloucester St) between Kerrs Rd and Ngarimu St from this week. Detour will be via Ngarimu St, Dunarnan St to Kerrs Rd.

Worcester St continues to be one-way southbound between Linwood Ave and Woodham Rd.

• Part of Jollie St will be closed until the end of August. One side of the street is open for pedestrians. Please follow the signs.

Avonside Dr continues to be one-way westbound, between Stanmore Rd and Fitzgerald Ave.

• Follow the signage and watch for changing traffic conditions like lane reductions and turning restrictions along Linwood Ave while pipelining and patch repairs are completed.

Shirley

• Traffic won’t be able to enter or exit Petrie St at the Shirley Rd corner for about 5 weeks. Follow the detour signs.

Dudley St/Hills Rd intersection is currently left turn exit only onto Hills Rd. Watch for changed traffic conditions. The one-way system for northbound traffic on Hills Rd (between Guild and Dudley Sts) continues. Southbound traffic follow the detour signage.

Richmond – Chrystal St

There is a progressive one-way southbound along Chrystal St. Watch for changed traffic conditions.

St Martins

Palatine Tce between #62 and the Buxton Tce intersection is closed for around 4 weeks. Follow the detour signs.

Burwood - Lake Terrace Rd

Lake Terrace Rd is closed between Burwood Rd and De Ville Pl, including the Burwood Rd intersection. Resident access has been maintained. Please follow detour signs.

Sydenham – Colombo St

Colombo St has lane reductions between Strickland St and Beaumont St for about seven weeks. Expect delays during peaks hours. Use an alternative route if possible.

Woolston

Smith St between Bray St and Ferry Rd is closed until October. Traffic on Matlock St will be unable to enter or exit Smith St, please use Mackworth St.

Hopkins St between Wildberry and Hobson is closed for up to 5 weeks. Resident access has been maintained where possible.

Hoon Hay

Sparks Rd back to two-way from Monday 17 August. Thanks to all the travellers in the area for your patience.

• Currently no exit onto Sparks Rd from Rydal St.

Maryhill Ave is one-way from Hoon Hay Rd westbound (towards Halswell).

Coming Up: Hagley Park area – bridge repairs starting soon

As early as Friday 21 August repairs start on the Carlton Mill bridge at the intersection of Harper Ave, Park Tce and Carlton Mill Rd. Two-way traffic will remain but reduced lanes may cause delays. Consider a different route at peak time. Due to footpath closures please look out for pedestrians and cyclists around this busy corner of Hagley Park. Repairs will take around 3 months.

As early as Monday 24 August work starts on the Helmores Lane bridge. It will stay open to pedestrians and cyclists for the first few weeks. Please follow the signs and keep children and pets safe around this work site.
