Big Rigs Will Gather Again in Christchurch

Big Rigs Will Gather Again in Christchurch on the 8th October 2016 for the Largest Trucking Show in the South Island

Trucking 2016 is a bi-annual truck show. In 2014 over 10,000 people visited the show on one day. Early indications are that the show in 2016 is going to be even bigger.

Early bookings have been received from exhibitors and sponsors from the last show because they don’t want to miss the opportunity to connect again with their customers or miss this grand event.

Features of the show include a new marquee village outside. This is a new option for companies to hire so they can display or have hospitality in a 10mx 10m marquee. It also includes vehicle or machinery display space outside. Options inside the C+E Hall include 72 trade spaces and a Careers Hub to help promote our industry.

Working displays will include log truck loading and unloading of logs, cranes, container loading and unloading, and remote control diggers.

Competitions throughout the day include tarping, an iron man pull a truck, and other competitions will be announced soon.

The Careers Hub will be located in the front of the C+E Hall so companies can advertise positons or promote training options.

The stars of the show are the Show and Shine Trucks – these are real life working trucks. These trucks will line up along the old air force runway. The truck alley will showcase new trucks as well as classic trucks will gather to complete what will be a magnificent overall display of trucks.

This year there is a new kid’s zone which will feature the “Heavy Trucks Giant Sandpit” filled with toy MAN trucks. There will be a road system for scooters so kids can ride the scooters and learn traffic safety and awareness at the same time.

Safety demonstrations will show how trucks and cyclists can share the road safely. Cyclists can get in the cab of a large truck and see what the driver sees, and the truck driver can ride a bike to see what the cyclists can see.

The day will be rounded off with a function in the evening which includes themed bars, food stations for a continuous dinner, and entertainment from Bryan Townley and his band from Invercargill.

Entry to the show is a gold coin per person and all proceeds will be donated to Ronald McDonald House SI and Child Cancer Canterbury. A charity auction will take place at the evening function and all proceeds will be donated to the charities.

A new website has been set up. Registrations for the Show & Shine and ticket purchases for the dinner can be done online www.christchurchtruckingshow.co.nz. For exhibitors and sponsors contact the show co-ordinator Carol McGeady to discuss your requirements.

This is a joint initiative from the NZ Trucking Association and Road Transport Association NZ. A committee has also been set up. If you would like to volunteer on the day to help make this the grandest event ever, please contact the show co-ordinator Carol McGeady at NZ Trucking Association, or Dave Boyce 0800 338 338. Simon Carson or John Bond at Road Transport Association NZ 0800 367 782.
