Dr Roger Blakeley Standing for Greater Wellington And CCDHB
Dr Roger Blakeley announced today that he will be standing for election for the Greater Wellington Regional Council and the Capital and Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) in the local elections in October.
Dr Blakeley said he will be standing on a platform of a Better and Bolder Regional Council and District Health Board.
“Wellington Region faces three major challenges. Bold solutions to these challenges include:
(1) Better Public Transport: Ngauranga to Airport Corridor strategy requires bold new transport solutions. Deliver reliable, affordable, accessible and safer public transport, with integrated fares and a single ticketing system across all modes.
(2) Clean Environment: Implement National Policy Statement on Freshwater Management to achieve swimmable waterways, support implementation of new integrated Natural Resources Plan for the region, maintain and where possible restore biodiversity, boldly advocate for transition to a low carbon economy and build resilience to flooding and sea level rise.
(3) Economic growth: Through a rejuvenated regional economic development agency, boost economic growth led by innovation, driven by technology and focused on exports; particularly in sectors where we have competitive advantage such as screen, IT, design, tourism, creativity and education.”
If elected to the CCDHB, Dr Blakeley said his three priorities would be:
“I will boldly advocate for government to fund people’s vital health priorities properly. I will aim to get better value from our government funding so we can meet people’s critical health needs;
“I will promote a better working environment for all health professionals and related workers, and access to smart technology; and “I will powerfully advocate for public health preventive measures, especially those to reduce suicide, obesity, alcohol and drug abuse, child harm, and family violence, and to improve home insulation.
