Tourist Airlifted from Whanganui River
The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to John Coull Hut in the Whanganui River, this morning where a German tourist in her 20’s was suffering a severe allergic reaction following an insect bite. The patient was stabilised at the scene by the on-board St John Ambulance Intensive Care Para-Medic before being airlifted to Whanganui Hospital in a stable condition. The Rescue Helicopter was used for the mission due to the remote and inaccessible location of the patient.
Philips Search and Rescue Trust (PSRT) is a charitable organisation, operating rescue helicopters throughout the Central North Island. Philips Search and Rescue Trust relies on support from principal sponsors and community donations. This crucial financial support ensures our rescue helicopters can continue to bring life-saving equipment, rescue personnel and trauma-trained medics directly to the patient.
