Rotuman Community plants flowers at Masjid e Umar

The Rotuman Community is planting flowers tonight at Masjid e Umar (Mount Roskill Mosque) in support of our Muslim Communities.

The Auckland Rotuman Fellowship Group Incorporated (ARFGI), has asked its members to meet at the Mosque at 185 Stoddard Road, Mount Roskill, Auckland from 6:30pm tonight to continue with the gardening, which began two days ago.

General Secretary, Ms Rachael Mario, said, “We asked our Muslim brothers and sisters if we could help plant some of the flowers that have been kindly left at the front of the Mosque. And they thought it was a great idea, as this will be a permanent reminder of the love and support received from ordinary Kiwi’s”

Ms Mario added, “We want to share the love, and also support each other, and show solidarity during this sad time for our country”.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with our Muslim and the Canterbury communities at this time of immense sadness and emotion”.

Rotuman people are a separate ethnic group with their own distinct language, culture and identity, and originate from the Polynesian Island of Rotuma.

Rotuma consists of the island of Rotuma and its nearby islets, and is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, about 500 kms north of Fiji, and 500 kms west of Wallis & Futuna.
