Kaikōura Highway Reopens Around 5.30 Pm, Snow Between Otira And Arthur’s Pass Overnight - Chains Required
SH1 north of Kaikōura is expected to reopen at 5.30 pm tonight after a serious crash after 1 pm involving a bus and a car.
Given the back-log of traffic it will be a slow journey north of Kaikōura tonight, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
The Police Serious Crash Unit will be back on site Saturday so drivers should anticipate Stop/Go manual traffic control and a slower journey through Clarence tonight and Saturday.
Snow Arthur’s Pass – route between West Coast and Canterbury
Snow is falling between Arthur’s Pass and Otira on SH73 late this afternoon.
Drivers need to use chains and no towing vehicles are allowed.
