Mayoral Candidate Brady Dyer Unveils Vision For A Thriving Lower Hutt

Independent mayoral candidate Brady Dyer is announcing his 30-point plan to create a Lower Hutt that does the basics better, boosts businesses, and builds stronger communities.
“This is a crucial time for Lower Hutt. Our city is facing some big challenges, and I’m the candidate with the right mix of experience, and the bold, innovative thinking needed to take us in the right direction,” Dyer says.
“With six years on council, and 20 years running local businesses, I know what it takes to make the tough calls, bring people together, and get things done.
“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved for our city as a councillor. But there’s so much more to do, and I know there is a better way to do it.
“I have a vision and a plan with 30 clear actions that I am releasing today to help us shape a city future generations will thank us for.
“As your Mayor, I’ll ensure the council delivers great core services, while keeping rates increases affordable.
“This includes initiating a line-by-line review of the budget to ensure every ratepayer’s dollar is spent wisely and delivers real value. I’ll also launch a live, public budget dashboard so people can see exactly where money goes and progress on key projects.
“My plan will also see a ‘fix the basics’ programme launched to sort out things like potholes, streetlights, and footpaths.
“Lower Hutt businesses have a well-earned reputation of punching above their weight. But right now, a lot of them are doing it tough.
“With your support, I’ll make sure we back local industries with things like a Buy Local, Build Local Procurement policy that prioritises local businesses for all council contracts.
“I’ll also look to set up a dedicated Business Incubator & Accelerator to provide a space for innovative manufacturing, construction, and tech start-ups.

“I'm incredibly proud to be part of one of the most diverse cities in Aotearoa New Zealand, and I want to see us celebrating and creating vibrant, connected communities.
“That’s why my plan includes establishing a new Neighbourhood Renewal fund with microgrants to support grassroots projects, like street parties, clean-ups, plantings, and murals.
“It’s vital that people feel truly informed, heard, and part of every decision. I’ll keep improving the way the council engages with the community, increase openness and transparency, and hold citizen assemblies for the big issues.
“I’m excited, and energised for this next phase of the campaign and to continue sharing my plan with our community. Lower Hutt needs a leader with the passion, focus, and skills to deliver a vision that will see our city, businesses, and people thrive.”
