NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising road users of upcoming road surface reconstruction work on State Highway 1 (SH1) southbound between Esmonde Road and Onewa Road.

This work will take place over approximately 9 nights when traffic is lower (10pm to 5am) between 12 and 30 October 2025 (excluding Friday and Saturday nights).

While work is being carried out the following traffic management will be in place:

• Sunday 12 October: southbound lane restrictions, Esmonde Road on-ramp closed.
• Monday 13 to Thursday 30 October: full southbound closure between Esmonde Road and Onewa Road. Esmonde Road southbound on-ramp and Onewa Road southbound off-ramps closed. Detour via Akoranga Drive, Lake Road and Onewa Road.

Closure dates:

Week 1: Sunday 12 to Thursday 16 October

Week 2: Sunday 19 October

Week 3: Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 October

Contingency week: Sunday 2 November to Monday 3 November

Paving works are weather dependent and may change from advertised dates.
