It’s That Time Of Year Again! Tronpost Is Back And Better Than Ever

Hamilton City Council’s Tronpost is back, just in time for planting spring vegetables and sprucing up gardens.

From 8am – midday on Saturday 15 November, you can bring a bucket to the Wickham Street Hamilton Organic Centre, and our team will fill it with free Tronpost (while stocks last). Bring your own bucket with a handle (maximum of 20L per person or up to 80L per car).

Tronpost is compost made from Hamilton's kerbside food scraps and green waste.

Council’s Head of Resource Recovery, Sarah Wilson, said the Tronpost event promotes the benefits of using the kerbside food scraps bin.

“Last year, we gave out 11,500 kg of Tronpost. Not only does Tronpost give Hamiltonians free compost, but it helps spread awareness of how our kerbside food scraps are repurposed and turned into compost to provide nutrients for local gardens,” said Wilson.

Over the past year, Hamiltonians have kept a whopping 4,293,000kg of food scraps out of landfill by using their kerbside food scraps bins — that’s roughly the weight of 858 elephants!

“It would be great to see more people in our community using their food scraps bins; the more we divert from landfill, the more Tronpost we can create, and the better it is for our environment,” said Wilson.

The team at the Tronpost event will be filling up buckets as quickly as possible to help alleviate delays. Please be patient with the staff on-site as you wait for your free Tronpost.

The event meets the goals of Council’s 2024-2030 Waste Management and Minimisation Plan to reduce what enters the waste stream and increase resource recovery.
