Fluoridation System Returns To Normal Operation
Hamilton City Council has resumed fluoridation of drinking water after a temporary pause to change stocks and undertake maintenance.
Fluoridation was paused from 27 March 2026 after some treatment chemicals had differences in their concentrated form which could have led to increased corrosion in Council’s storage facility.
Maintenance checks showed no issues with the storage facility, and the treatment product was replaced. There was no impact on the safety or quality of drinking water at any time.
Treatment has now resumed in line with Council’s requirements under the Health (Fluoridation of Drinking Water) Amendment Act 2021. Local authorities are required to fluoridate a water supply if directed to do so by the Director-General of Health.
